Environmental Information
In this generation, mankind faces a moral, economic and environmental dilemma.
Do we, as a species living on Earth, continue burning fossil fuels emitting thousands of tons of excess
carbon dioxide into Earth's atmosphere?
- Scientific evidence points to high levels of excess carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere are
associated with large scale global extinction events.
Do we, as a species living on Earth, increase production and use of fuels derived from feed stocks of non-
fossilized organic matter?
- Increasing agricultural production will increase fresh water usage that may deplete fresh water
resources to critical levels.
- Not increasing agricultural production will increase instances of famine related sickness and
death as food resources are used to create fuel.
Mankind must decide if their current way of life is more important than seeing that their offspring are able to
enjoy a life like they are enjoying. It is unclear if rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels will be the
undoing of this generation of life upon earth. Mankind does not know at what point irreversible climate
change will begin that could lead to global extinction events. Currently, scientists world wide are looking for
clues to how much the trigger level may be. We may have already passed the threshold of irreversible
climate change. The full extent of climate changes that will result from the current levels of carbon dioxide
in the environment will not be known until the levels stabilize and begin to decline.
Though we hope we are an intelligent enough species to understand when we are causing sever damage
to our surroundings and valiant enough to correct our damage before we reach a point of non-reversibility.
The real test of our compassion, valor and ability lie in front of us. If we do not face the challenge of
reducing emissions of carbon dioxide resulting from burning fossilized carbon sources. We could set into
action an irreversible alteration of Earth's climate that may dramatically reduce or eliminate mankind and
many other species upon Earth.
